About Chasteberry Extract Powder
Vitex (Vitex agnus-castus), also known as chaste tree or chasteberry, is a shrub found in the Mediterranean. It is used as a supplement to help alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, menopause, and polycystic ovary syndrome, and improve fertility.
Vitex may indirectly influence several hormones—such as progesterone and estrogen—by reducing the release of prolactin. While the supplement is generally considered safe, vitex shouldn't be taken with some medications, including oral contraceptives.
Vitex supplements may improve symptoms associated with PMS and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Research suggests that by decreasing prolactin release, vitex helps balance levels of estrogen and progesterone, decreasing severity of mood swings, breast pain, and headaches.
Vitex is used to help manage hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, depression, and anxiety during menopause.
There is evidence that vitex may boost fertility. Studies conclude vitex can contribute to the treatment of infertility in both men and women by regulating hormonal balance.
Research suggests vitex may help improve symptoms of PCOS, including irregular menstrual blood flow, absence of period, and high levels of androgens.
